This paper reports on recent results of optical studies on the CuSingle Bond signNi alloy system. Reflectivity measurements have been made on Cu, 84 Cu-16 Ni, 39 Cu-61 Ni, and Ni from 0.2-10 eV. Infrared absorption in the Cu-rich alloy indicates the existence of a virtual bound state approximately 1 eV below the Fermi level. This absorption is related quantitatively to the model of the state and is compared with other dilute alloys of the transition metals. © 1969 The American Institute of Physics.
