摘要
Comparative studies were conducted on the growth rate and reproductive potential in populations of normal and abnormal strains of larval Taenia crassiceps following intraperitoneal inoculation of nonbudding larvae into 2 1 2-month-old female mice. Results indicate that after intraperitoneal inoculation, the abnormal (ORF) strain begins asexual exogenous budding sooner and then increases the population size much more rapidly than the normal KBS strain. In addition, the mean number of reproducing ORF larvae and the percentage of the total population they represent far exceeds that of the KBS strain after the 140-day duration of the experiment. Furthermore, the mean number of buds per reproducing ORF larva is 2 1 2 times greater than that of each reproducing KBS larva. Certain morphogenic anomalies associated with ORF larvae are also described. It is hypothesized that the abnormal morphogenic and reproductive characteristics of the ORF strain of larval T. crassiceps are the result of genetic mutation; current and future lines of study to support this hypothesis are mentioned. © 1969.
