DAYTIME ENERGY EXCHANGE AND EVAPORATION FROM A WOODED SWAMP

Hourly values of daytime energy balance components were obtained for 5 days in late summer at a wooded swamp in southern Ontario [Canada]. Bowen ratio estimates of the energy used in evaporation were compared with values obtained from the equilibrium form of the combination model. Agreement between the 2 methods was poor for hourly values but better in the case of daytime totals, where the proportion of Bowen ratio to equilibrium estimates varied from 0.7-1.04. The results did not support the use of a potential evaporation formula despite an apparently nonlimiting supply of moisture in the soil.
