FLOW-INJECTION DETERMINATION OF TRACES OF FORMALDEHYDE BY THE BRILLIANT GREEN SULFITE REACTION WITH SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC DETECTION

摘要
A flow-injection system is proposed for the rapid determination of trace amounts of formaldehyde based on its inhibition of the Brilliant Green-sulphite reaction at pH 7. Formaldehyde in the range 40-3000 ng ml-1 can be determined at a rate of 35 +/- 5 samples h-1. The limit of detection was 20 ng ml-1. The relative standard deviation for the determination of 1-mu-g ml-1 formaldehyde was 0.2%. The method was applied to the determination of formaldehyde in melamine-formaldehyde resin and chemical industrial waste water.
