EFFECT OF TEMPERATURE AND MODERATOR CONCENTRATION ON EFFICIENCY AND RESOLUTION OF LIQUID CHROMATOGRAPHY COLUMNS

摘要
The effect of temperature and moderator concentration on the retention volumes of a range of solutes has been investigated, and the effect of temperature on efficiency and resolution examined. From the results, a chromatographic system is suggested that employs three mobile phases, each containing a different level of moderator, and an operating range between ambient and 80°C which will cape with a wide range of polar solutes. The possibilities of positive and negative temperature programming for such a system have also been investigated and shown to be of little advantage due to the time necessary for equilibrium to occur between the phases. However, it has been demonstrated that the technique of flow programming is extremely effective in reducing analysis times without significant loss in resolution. © 1969, Oxford University Press.
