PRESSING PRESSURE-DEPENDENCE OF CRITICAL CURRENT-DENSITY IN SINGLE-PHASE 2223 BI,PB-SR-CA-CU-O POLYCRYSTALLINE SUPERCONDUCTOR

The transport critical current density, Jc, of single-phase 2223 polycrystalline samples of nominal composition (Bi0.9Pb0.1)2Sr2Ca2Cu3O10+x was measured. The samples were compacted by uniaxial pressure in the region 10-1200 MPa and then sintered. A texture with a preferred orientation of the c axis parallel to the direction of the pressing pressure was observed. It was found that the magnitude of the pressing pressure was substantial to reach a high Jc. The best samples exhibited Jc (at 77 K) as high as 1600 A cm-2 and 250 A cm-2 at magnetic fields of 0 T and 140 mT, respectively. © 1990.
