A TEST OF SPATIAL RANDOMNESS ON SMALL SCALES, COMBINING INFORMATION FROM MAPPED LOCATIONS WITHIN SEVERAL QUADRATS

摘要
A method is proposed for testing whether points mapped within square quadrats are randomly distributed within the quadrats, independent of their distribution between quadrats. It is based on a comparison of the distribution of a subset of interpoint distances with that expected under the null hypothesis. The critical values of the test, determined by simulation, depend only on total sample size. The power of the test is shown graphically at a size of 5% against aggregated and regular alternatives Poisson-distributed on larger scales. Power depends strongly on sample size, weakly on point density. A program to calculate the test is available.
