STRUCTURE OF SR4IRO6 BY TIME-OF-FLIGHT NEUTRON POWDER DIFFRACTION

Strontium iridium oxide, Sr4IrO6, M(r) = 638.7, rhombohedral, R3cBAR, a = 9.73439 (9), c = 11.8920 (2) angstrom (hexagonal setting), V = 975.9 angstrom3, Z = 6, D(x) = 6.52 g cm-3. Rietveld refinement of time-of-flight neutron powder diffraction data in the range 3000-19300 mus [collected at 298 K, F(000) = 417.8 fm, 1051 contributing reflections] resulted in R(I) = 3.7%, R(p) = 6.1%, R(wp) = 3.5% and chi2 = 0.99. Sr4IrO6 is isostructural with Sr4PtO6.
