THE ROLE OF SUPERCRITICAL-FLUID EXTRACTION AND CHROMATOGRAPHY IN ORGANOTIN SPECIATION STUDIES

Analytical strategies using supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) for the determination of organotin in aqueous and solid matrices are presented. In situ derivatization reactions prior to SFE with CO2, or the use of modified CO2 (methanolic-HCl, formic acid), on-line SFE-gas chromatography and SFE-supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC) are discussed. Finally, the different detection systems (flame ionization, flame photometric, atomic emission spectrometric detection) and hyphenated techniques, which have been coupled to SFC (electrospray ionization and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry) for organotin speciation are presented.
