SIGNAL TO NOISE RATIO IN SPECKLE INTERFEROMETRY IN THE PHOTON-COUNTING AUTOCORRELATION MODE AT LOW LIGHT LEVELS

摘要
An expression is derived for the statistical uncertainty at a point in the summed spatial autocorrelation functions of a finite number of photon limited images. The expression is used to estimate the point-wise signal to noise ratio in speckle interferometry for binary and giant stars. This treatment clearly shows the dependence of the point-wise signal to noise ratio on the size of the resolution cell, the object size and the exposure parameters. © 1979.
