In this study, the heat storage capacities of different salt hydrates, which can be used as heat storage materials for domestic heating by heat pumps, were determined. It is expected that thermal storage media can be worked as a reversible battery, hence the availability of domestic heating was discussed. The costs per calorie of the heat storage materials under consideration were calculated. The experimental results have shown that heat can be accumulated into a store and discharged from the store by using heat pumps. Domestic heating in this way gives an important energy saving. It was found that using CaCl2.6H2O or Na2SO4.10H2O as heat storage materials are appropriate.
