A precursor of 2,2,6,8-tetramethyl-7,11-dioxatricyclo[6.2.1.0(1,6)]undec-4-ene (Riesling acetal) and 1,1,6-trimethyl-1,2-dihydronaphthalene (TDN),3,4-dihydroxy-7,8-dihydro-beta-ionone-beta-D-glucopyranoside, was isolated from red currant (Ribes rubrum L.) leaves. The steps of isolation comprised retention of the glycosides on Amberlite XAD-2 resin and subsequent prefractionation of the methanolic eluate by rotation locular countercurrent chromatography (RLCC). After acetylation and liquid chromatographic purification, characterization was made by means of LC-MS and NMR analyses.
