摘要
WC-(Fe-Ni-C) cermets whose binder phase exhibits an f.c.c.-to-b.c.t. martensitic transformation have been made and their mechanical properties and crystallography have been evaluated in detail in order to determine the influence of martensitic transformation on their fracture toughness. The toughness of the cermets is found to be much higher than that in conventional WC-Co cermets and certain features of the martensites formed in the binder phase are quite different from those in bulk specimens of the same composition. The increase in toughness of the cermets is related to martensitic transformation in the binder phase.
