PROPAGATION CHARACTERISTICS OF SINGLE-MODE OPTICAL FIBERS WITH ARBITRARY REFRACTIVE-INDEX PROFILE - THE FINITE QUADRATIC ELEMENT APPROACH

摘要
A new numerical method, the finite quadratic element method, is proposed for analyzing propagation characteristics of single-mode optical fibers with arbitrary refractive-index profile. The method gives highly accurate solutions with moderate computational effort. Examples are given for alpha-profile fiber, dispersion-shifted fiber, W fiber with rectangular central dip, and fiber with triangular core and depressed cladding.
