POLARIZATION IN ELASTIC SCATTERING OF PROTONS FROM DEUTERONS FROM 11-MEV TO 22.7-MEV

摘要
Angular distributions of the proton polarization in p-d elastic scattering have been measured at Ep = 11, 14.5, 17.5, 20.15 and 22.7 MeV, in the angular range θc.m. = 20°-155°. At 11, 17.5 and 22.7 MeV the angular range was extended forward by detecting the scattered protons with a 180° magnetic spectrometer, but no evidence was found for negative polarizations at small angles. The positive maximum at θc.m. ≈ 130° moves slowly backwards with increasing energy; its height increases up to 15 MeV where it saturates at a value of 0.22. The negative minimum at θc.m. ≈ 110° appears at 17.5 MeV, moves also backwards with a depth increasing linearly with energy. Using the available experimental data, a contour map of the proton polarization in p-d elastic scattering is given in the energy range of 0-50 MeV. Excitation curves of the polarization and asymmetry of protons elastically and inelastically (from the 4.43 MeV excited state) scattered from 12C at a laboratory scattering angle of 55° were also measured in the energy range of 11 to 20 MeV. © 1969.
