GAP FORMATION IN CENISN AT LOW-TEMPERATURES

摘要
Transport, thermoelectric, calorimetric properties and inelastic neutron spectra of the CeNiSn and solid solutions Ce1-xLaxNiSn (0<x<1) are studied. At low temperatures T<10 K a gap at the Fermi level is observed. The origin of the gap formation in CeNiSn may be caused by the exact coincidence of free electron number per magnetic center with unity in the coherent regime. When this balance is changed by the substitution of Ce by La atoms in Ce1-xLaxNiSn compounds, the coherent gap Eg is rapidly suppressed. Hydrostatic pressure up to 16kbars also induces the gap suppression. Critical pressure corresponding to Eg = 0 is about 24 kbars. From inelastic neutron spectra we obtained 4f level CF splitting in CeNiSn and the unusual disappearance of this splitting at low temperatures. © 1990.
