EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF DEPOSITION OF FLOWING HIGHLY DISPERSED AEROSOLS ON THIN CYLINDERS

摘要
Experiments on the filtration of highly dispersed aerosols with particle diameters dp from 0.1 to 0.6 μ through model filters with an orderly arrangement of fibers df = 4.3 and 15 μ thick have shown that in the diffusion region of deposition the efficiency follows satisfactorily the relation drawn formerly by a number of authors for point particles, i.e., η = αC 1 31 Pe- 2 3 (Pe is the Peclét number; C1 and α are constants) with the constant α = 2.32 suggested by Natanson. In the region of deposition by direct interception for a velocity of 15 cm/see there has been found a linear increase of η with increase of capture parameter R = dp/df. The slopes of the straight lines for the two filters are different and less than that expected from the theory of potential flow around the cylinder. The square dependence η = βR2 according to the theory for viscous flow around the cylinder is not proven by experiment. © 1969.
