Responses of the four types of tarsal chemoreceptive hairs on the blowfly were studied electrophysiologically. There were consistent differences among the different hair types and also among specific hairs of type D. These differences may aid in behavioural discriminations made by the blowfly. Some of them appear to be related to frequency of use. No responses of a water receptor were observed. © 1969.
