Magnetic field dependence curves are presented for the 13C CIDNP signals resulting from photolysis of 2-phenylcycloalkanones in cyclohexane. One of the three biradical-derived products, the trapped ketene, reverses its polarization at high field. This is interpreted in terms of a competition between nuclear spin-dependent and nuclear spin-independent intersystem crossing in the biradical, and as evidence for a product selectivity based on the mechanism of intersystem crossing. © 1979.
