REACTION OF URANIUM OXIDES WITH ALKALI HALIDES

摘要
The reactions of the oxides UO3 and U3O8 with excess alkali halides MX, particularly KCl, RbCl and CsCl, have been studied using techniques of i.r. spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction. The final product of these reactions is always the diuranate M2U2O7, but several intermediate phases have been detected and identified. These phases have the compositions MxUO3Clx (x ∼ 0·8) and M4U5O16Cl2. Some of the properties of these compounds are described, and the mechanism of the reaction is discussed. © 1968.
