摘要
This work records the development of a quick-stop device employing a commercial explosive motor. Assessments of the performance of the device in its original design revealed that it had serious faults. These faults were rectified through modifications. Comparison with other quick-stop devices (published data) showed the speed of separation for the modified device to be good. Static and dynamic stiffness tests suggested that the device was acceptable from these standpoints. The device was canted over during cutting tests to avoid interference of the tool with the previously cut workpiece surface during the tool retraction process. An analysis is made which enables the chip root distortion introduced by canting to be evaluated. © 1969.
