RAPID CI-MS DETERMINATION OF VALPROIC ACID - ADAPTATION OF A GAS-CHROMATOGRAPHIC ASSAY

摘要
Adaptation of a gas chromatographic method for valproic acid to a determination using chemical ionization mass spectrometry (CI-MS) is reported. Using the mass spectrometer as a gas chromatographic effluent monitor, valproic acid and paramethadione (an internal standard) concentrations are followed at m/e [mass charge ratio] 145 and 158, respectively. Quantitation is achieved by measurement of the specific chromatographic area attributable to each of these substances. The method offers the advantages of high specificity and reproducibility, with short (less than 1 min) chromatographic elution times.
