摘要
There is confusion in the literature regarding the term isokinetics; that is, does the term refer to constancy of change of muscle length or to constancy of angular movement of a limb? A mathematical argument is presented which indicates that when angular movement of a limb is held constant as provided by current isokinetic instrumentation, the concurrent change of muscle length is not constant, nor is its acceleration through the range of joint movement. It is suggested that isokinetics be reserved to denote contraction which accompanies constant angular velocity of a limb, and that some other term be used to describe contractions which are isovelocity in nature. © 1979 Taylor 8 Francis Group, LLC.
