A method suitable for the routine determination of cholesterol in human urine has been developed. The procedure consists of a simple chloroform extraction of a urine aliquot, acetylation, and subsequent gas-liquid chromatography (GLC) with an internal standard utilizing a peak-height ratio technique for quantitation. An assessment of the reliability of the method as well as excretion values in normal individuals are presented and discussed. © 1968 Holden-Day, Inc.
