Oxygen quenching of singlet and triplet states

摘要
The rate constants of quenching of singlet and triplet states by oxygen have been measured for nine aromatic hydrocarbons in solution. Singlet quenching is diffusion controlled and similar in all cases but triplet quenching is slower and the quenching rite constant is closely related to the reciprocal of the triplet energy. This observation is interpreted in terms of the dominant role of Franck-Condon factors in the quenching mechanism.
