摘要
When adults view objects moving behind an aperture, they are able to perceive their shapes and physical properties (such as size and location). This research investigates the development of the ability to perceive object length over time. In Experiment 1, 24-month-olds were tested for the perception of object length behind an aperture. In Experiment 2, 4- and 8-month-olds were tested in a control experiment for the perception of object length in full view. In Experiment 3, 8-, 10-, and 12-month-olds were tested for the perception of object length over time behind an aperture. Findings suggest that this ability is developed by 12 months of age. These results suggest that the ability to perceive object properties over time develops rather late in infancy. The findings are discussed in light of other research showing that related abilities emerge earlier in life.
