The application of trellis-coded modulation to reducing the effects of "residual interference" levels encountered on multipath fading channels after adaptive equalization in high capacity digital microwave radio systems is investigated. Simulation is used to derive error performance curves and outage probabilities. The results indicate that trellis-coded modulation can offer performance improvements in addition to those offered by adaptive equalization.
