摘要
The characteristics and stability of surface modes at a planar interface between two nonlinear media are investigated, each with a power-law nonlinearity (either self-focusing or self-defocusing). The familiar Kerr law is a special case. A simple analytical solution for these surface modes is found from the fundamental mode of a linear waveguide composed of either two different sech2 profiles, or one of which being a cosech2 profile. These results allow us to investigate the change in modal characteristics as the nonlinearity itself changes.
