INTERPRETING SCATTERING FROM RANDOM POROUS SOLIDS - A MODEL OF FULLY PENETRABLE SPHERICAL VOIDS

摘要
A structural model based on randomly placed fully penetrating spheres is presented for the interpretation of small angle scattering data from porous solids. At sufficiently high void fractions this model describes a complex pore space of tortuous passages. The distribution of sphere sizes allows for the flexibility to handle broad as well as narrow pore size distributions. The model computations are only slightly more complex than those for models based on discrete spheres. In addition, the model enables interpretation of scattering data for systems where the use of Porod and/or Guinier analysis is not appropriate. The model prediction of internal surface areas and pore parameters for a well-characterized alumina sample is in good agreement with data obtained by alternative characterization techniques. © 1990.
