CHARGE FORM-FACTOR EFFECTS IN GAMMA-GAMMA PRODUCTION OF NON-STRONGLY INTERACTING PARTICLES IN RELATIVISTIC HEAVY-ION COLLISIONS

摘要
We study the gamma-gamma-mechanism for relativistic heavy ions where the photon-photon interaction occurs inside one of the nuclei. Strong absorption effects in overlapping collisions are also taken into account. This leads to some dependence of the cross section on the actual charge distribution inside the nucleus. We give model calculations for mu- and tau-lepton pair production and Higgs production at RHIC and LHC(SSC) energies. The importance of the presently considered effect will depend on the strength of the nuclear interactions of the system produced in the gamma-gamma-collision.
