FIRST DIRECT OBSERVATION BY O-17 LIQUID NMR OF CO-CONDENSATION REACTIONS BETWEEN METHYL-SUBSTITUTED SILICON ALKOXIDES

摘要
Methyl-substituted silicon alkoxides, MgxSi(OEt)(4-x) (x = 0, 1, 2), precursors for sol-gel gel derived siloxane-silica materials, have been hydrolyzed with O-17-enriched water. O-17 liquid NMR experiments gave direct evidence for cocondensation reactions between the various silicon units in three systems, Me(2)Si(OEt)2/Si(OEt)r(4) MeSi(OEt)(3)/Si(OEt)(4), and Me(2)Si(OEt)(2)/MeSi(OEt)(3) prepared with 1/1 molar ratios.
