PHOTO-CHEMICAL OXIDANTS IN THE ROME METROPOLITAN AREA

The relationships between oxidants and their precursors, monitored during the Summer of 1977 at two sites in Rome, are analyzed in terms of urban/suburban and weekday/weekend differences. The extent to which the photochemical reactions occur, and the accumulation of up to 0.15 ppm (hourly value) of oxidants are strictly dependent on precursor concentration ratios (NMHC/NOx) ranging between 15 and 20 as well as on some meteorological variables, which have been correlated with oxidants through a regression model for short-term prediction purpose. © 1979.
