A number of compounds of the chemical formula [(C2H5)4N]2MX4 exhibit structural phase transitions in the temperature range 200-300 K, which were found in calorimetric investigations. Dielectric measurements on pellet samples confirmed the existence of the phase transitions and ferroelectricity in [(C2H5)4N]2MnCl4 has been proposed to exist.The paper is related to the investigations of chosen single crystals of this family. Dielectric measurements and optical observations revealed the structural phase transitions in [(C2H54N]2MnCl4 and [(C2H5)4N]2MnBr4 single crystals. Ferroelectricity was not confirmed in any of these compounds.
