DETERMINATION OF THE EXCHANGE INTERACTION DISTANCE IN THE ELECTRON-HOLE PAIR IN POLYDIACETYLENE USING MAGNETIC-FIELD EFFECT

摘要
The exchange interaction distance within an electron-hole pair in the polydiacetylene single crystal is determined as R = 35 angstrom. The pair may be considered as a delocalized exciton of the Wannier-Mott type which is formed as a result of interchain charge transfer. These excitons are assumed to be precursors of free charge carriers during photoexcitation and their polarization is speculated to be responsible for the initial prompt component of the photocurrent in the laser pulse experiments.
