FE3-TRIANGLE OPENING AND CLOSING BY A SINGLE 2-ELECTRON PROCESS IN THE BICAPPED TRIIRON CLUSTERS FE3(CO)9(MU-3-PMLN)2 (MLN = CPFE(CO)2, CPMN(CO)2)

摘要
A quasi-reversible single two-electron process observed by cyclic voltammetry is accompanied by localized Fe-Fe bond cleavage and bond formation in the bicapped triiron clusters open-Fe3(CO)9[mu-3-PFe(CO)2Cp]2 (1) and closed-Fe3(CO)9[mu-3-PMn(CO)2Cp]2 (2). For the case of 2, the two-electron reduction reaction to 2(2-) was characterized by an X-ray structure determination of the reduced product as well as an infrared spectroelectrochemical experiment that permitted observation of the one-electron reduced intermediate.
