摘要
The statistical theory for fracture of laminated composites devel oped previously has been extended to take account of stress enhance ment in neighboring elements around primary fractures. The results show that: a) the effective stress enhancement is less for an elastic matrix than for a rigid-plastic matrix, b) for constant length the strength of the composites rise with increasing numbers of parallel reinforcing elements for all flaw distributions and for both plastic and elastic matrices; c) for the same flaw distribution function the composite with the elastic matrix is stronger than the one with the plastic matrix. Experimental results in support of the theory, on boron sheet com posites and glass fiber tapes are reported. © 1969, Sage Publications. All rights reserved.
