ABSENCE OF SUPEROXIDE-DISMUTASE IN SOME STRAINS OF NEISSERIA-GONORRHOEAE

摘要
Several species of Neisseria were examined for their content of superoxide dismutase and catalase. Superoxide dismutase was measured by a spectrophotometric assay and was localized on polyacrylamide gels by staining for enzymatic activity. No superoxide dismutase could be detected in three strains of N. gonorrhoeae; four other strains had minimal activity. However, all strains of N. gonorrhoeae possessed extremely high levels of catalase. In contrast, strains of nonpathogenic Neisseria had two to twenty five times more superoxide dismutase than the greatest level found in N. gonorrhoeae. © 1979.
