Two type-II kerogens were transalkylated using CF3SO3H as catalyst and benzene as acceptor and solvent. The main homologous series of products thus obtained were alkylbenzenes, alkyltetralines, alkylnaphthalenes and 1,1-diphenylalkanes. Cyclization of alkylbenzenes in the reaction medium, as well as aromatization and isomerization of the resulting alkyltetralines were demonstrated. Hence, it was possible to determine the distribution of the alkyl chains which were transferred from the aromatic matrix in both kerogens.
