A PULSED NEUTRON DIFFRACTION MEASUREMENT OF PREFERRED ORIENTATION IN PRESSED POWDER COMPACTS OF BISMUTH SELENO-TELLURIDE

摘要
The grain orientation in a hot-pressed sample of Bi2Te 3 (5% Bi2Se3) has been observed by a neutron diffraction technique using a pulsed neutron source provided by the Harwell electron linear accelerator. The sample was found to be oriented with the c axis preferentially lying along the pressing direction. The measured orientation distribution is in reasonable agreement with the distribution postulated by Penn to account for the thermoelectric properties of the material.
