NONUNITY ELECTRODE REACTION ORDERS AND STATIONARY ELECTRODE POLAROGRAPHY

The theory of diffusion-controlled electrode processes, mO + ne⇌ qR, where one or both of the stoichiometric numbers m and q are integers greater than unity, has been considered for the triangular-wave chronoamperometric experiment. Two cases were considered in detail, 2O + ne ⇌ R and 3O + ne ⇌ R. Theoretical current-potential curves for these reactions are lower in height and broader than the curve for unity m and q. Satisfactory correlations have been made between the theory and the dissolution of mercury into cyanide solutions. © 1969, American Chemical Society. All rights reserved.
