A model of adipose tissue metabolism was tested that involved an interaction of the Krebs cycle and the pyruvate cycle. The ratio of the specific yield in 14CO2 from succinate-1,4-14C to that from succinate-2,3-14C agreed well with the ratio predicted by the model. However, the ratio of the specific yield in 14CO2 from acetate-1-14C to that from acetate-2-14C was considerably lower than this ratio. Degradation of the lactate produced in incubations of adipose tissue slices with glucose-6-14C yielded a pattern that agreed with a model in which oxalacetate, malate, and fumarate were assumed to be nearly in isotopic equilibrium. © 1969.
