摘要
The coagulation effects on microcrystalline cellulose sols of simple ions, hydrolyzed metal ions, chelate complexes, and a series of alkylammonium chlorides differing in length of the hydrocarbon chain have been investigated. It was found that these sols are much more sensitive towards electrolytes than typical lyophilic colloids. The coagulation concentrations of simple monovalent counterions were even considerably lower than for many lyophobic sols. It was suggested that this is due to the second stability minimum as predicted by the theory of Derjaguin-Landau-Verwey-Overbeek (DLVO). Reversal of charge of the microcrystalline cellulose particles could be achieved neither with complex counterions nor with the surface-active ions employed. All these are efficient reversal-of-charge agents when added to typical" lyophobic colloids. © 1969."
