摘要
The preparation and evaluation of colloidally dispersed gold/polymer composites was undertaken to provide an insight into the DC electrical conduction mechanisms operative in metal-filled polymers. Transmission electron microscopy showed that a segregated gold particle structure was present. It was shown theoretically that a significant enhancement in specimen conductivity should be achievable if the particle size ratio was allowed to increase. Of the two polymer matrices studied, the polyethylene showed an anomalous variation of volume resistivity with gold content, in comparison with the poly(methyl methacrylate) matrix. This difference was attributed to changes in spherulite size in the polyethylene when the submicrometre gold particles were added. © 1990 IOP Publishing Ltd.
