MAGNETOSTRICTION IN AMORPHOUS NI-CO ALLOYS

The saturation magnetostriction λs and the volume magnetostriction δω/δH in amorphous Ni-Co alloys were measured in the temperature range from 77 K up to room temperature. The three terminal capacitance method was used. The maximum value of saturation magnetostriction was observed for (Co.8Ni.2)78Si 8B14 and equals -5.1×10-6 and -6.2×10-6 at room temperature and liquid nitrogen temperature, respectively. The largest value of the volume magnetostriction constant is observed for Co78Si8 B14 composition and is equal to 3.1×10-10 Oe-1 at 300 K and 5.0×10-10 Oe-1 at 77 K.
