HIGH-TEMPERATURE PHASE-RELATIONSHIPS IN THE YB-H SYSTEM

摘要
In order to establish the high temperature phase relationships in the Yb-H system, X-ray diffraction and pressure temperature-composition (PTC) investigations have been performed. X-ray investigations were carried out in situ in the high pressure camera-reactor. The existence of three phases - alpha (orthorhombic) and two beta and beta' (cubic) phases - was confirmed. Our measurements have shown that the existence of the beta' phase is restricted to a closed area on the PTC diagram. In the alpha + beta' and beta' + beta two-phase plateaux of the PTC diagram the values of the standard enthalpy and entropy of dissociation of the ytterbium hydrides have been derived.
