PARTICULAR CLINICAL ASPECTS OF CHRONIC SUBDURAL HAEMATOMA IN ADULTS

Controversial aspects in the diagnosis of chronic subdural haematomas with an atypical neurological picture and the absence of trauma in the past history of the patient are discussed. Starting from the classical clinical aspect of subdural haematoma, the authors classify the particular forms of 93 haematomas into two groups: oligosymptomatic and atypical, each with different variants that are described and illustrated by clinical cases. The pathogenesis of the different clinical aspects and particular evolution of subdural haematomas are discussed, emphasizing the importance of cerebral oedema subjacent to the haematoma. The conclusions of the authors concerning the practical problems raised by the diagnosis and investigation of chronic subdural haematomas are presented. © 1969 S. Karger AG, Basel.
