LONG-TERM HEPATIC TOLERANCE OF AMIODARONE IN CLINIC

Long-term oral administration of amiodarone (Cordane ®) at doses of 300 or 600 mg daily over varying periods of time up to 32 weeks, did not produce any significant modification of metabolic or biliary hepatic function or of various haematological parameters in the great majority of thirty cardiac patients. Minor modifications of MDH in two cases were transient and could not be attributed to the drug. So-called cytolytic" tests were nevertheless thought to be an adequate measure of hepatic function in patients treated with amiodarone. Hepatic function is of importance because the transit of amiodarone in the human body is delayed. © 1969."
