Ultra-sound of 800 kHz frequency has been used to assist the passage of dispersible powders through micromesh sieves of 11 μm and 5·5 μm pore size. An aqueous slurry of the powder is transferred to the micromesh sieve and the transducer is placed in the slurry. A small electric stirring unit is also sited in the sieve to prevent accumulation of material at the edges. The technique showed good precision when applied to samples of a dispersible powder.
