ANALYSIS OF LOCALIZED POLARIZATION TRANSFER FOR C-13 VOLUME-SELECTIVE SPECTROSCOPY WITH SURFACE COILS

A method for obtaining spatially localized 13C spectra based on spatial selection via proton NMR and subsequent polarization transfer to 13C is discussed theoretically and experimentally. With the aid of numerical simulations and an operator formalism applied to a system of weakly coupled I = 1 2 spins without relaxation, the spatial distribution of 13C magnetization is determined for a selection process under inhomogeneous B1 irradiation fields. The analysis is carried out with ISIS for spatial localization and DEPT for polarization transfer, as applied with a system of concentric 1H and 13C surface coils for transmission and reception. Experimental results which confirm the simulated data are shown. © 1991.
