ESTIMATING LEAF-AREA INDEX OF WHEAT WITH LANDSAT DATA

摘要
Foliage density is a valuable measurement for assessing crop growth, development, and yield. A relationship between foliage density and spectral intensity has been noted in several studies. In this study we developed an empirical model to estimate foliage density, i.e., leaf area index (LAI), using LANDSAT Multispectral Scanner (MSS) data. LAI measurements of wheat from several fields in three Kansas counties during three growing seasons were correlated with various transformations of LANDSAT MSS data. The model performed well at LAIs above 0.5, but significantly poorer below 0.5. © 1979.
